The service of Evensong is a special event at all cathedrals, being celebrated daily either in the said form or as a full choral service. This service has a special theme to commemorate the start of World War I. Two pieces by Ivor Gurney who fought in WWI for the Gloucestershire Regiment are featured and are first recordings, together with the canticles of Neil Cox, especially written for Gloucester Cathedral Choir. John Sanders, a past director of music at the cathedral is also represented in three works including, “A Prayer”, the last piece written before his untimely death in 2003.

"Full of energy and well recorded." Choir and Organ ***

"it is an Evensong of high quality. Recommended." Organists Review.

"This is another outstanding original release from Priory.....The first thing that will strike the listener is the superbly natural sound....one has to say that this is one of the most imaginative recordings of a church service I have ever heard." Robert Matthew Walker - The Organ
